The Michigan Herp Atlas is a statewide citizen science initiative administered by Herpetological Resource and Management (HRM) in partnership with the Michigan Amphibian and Reptile Conservancy (MARC). Together, we work with a growing network of collaborators, including the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (MDNR), the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE), the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), federal, state, county, and local agencies, universities, nonprofit organizations, private companies, and thousands of Michigan residents who contribute observations each year.

Every observation submitted, whether of a more common species, a rare find, or a non-native reptile or amphibian, helps expand our understanding of Michigan’s herpetofauna. These records support conservation planning, habitat management, scientific research, environmental review, education, and outreach throughout the state.

The Michigan Herp Atlas continues to grow thanks to the dedication of our volunteers and the generosity of our sponsors. Most recently, we launched the Michigan Herp Atlas mobile app for iOS, making it even easier to submit observations from the field. We are already working toward future enhancements, including expanding the app to additional platforms, improving mapping and reporting tools, developing new conservation resources, and continuing to grow the program.

All sponsorships are processed through the Michigan Amphibian and Reptile Conservancy (MARC), a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, making your sponsorship tax-deductible.
